Detroit Lakes woman stars in film bringing awareness to drug addiction during pandemic

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (Valley News Live) -During the early stages of the pandemic, opioid overdoses increased by nearly 40%, and according to the CDC, that number continues to climb.

Now a Detroit Lakes woman is using her creativity to fight back. She’s starring in a film that aims to bring awareness to drug addiction.

When Melissa Paakh set off to chase her dreams of becoming an actress in the big city, she never imagined something so meaningful would be right around the corner.

“When the project is bigger than yourself, it becomes really special,” Paakh says.

Man Charged After Fire At Shopping Center

A man was charged after a fire behind a popular local shopping center.

Tullytown Borough police were dispatched to the area of the Home Depot in the Levittown Town Center around 3:53 a.m. Friday for a report for a fire. Volunteer firefighters were also called to the scene for a pallet on fire next to the building.

The arriving officers found a wooden pallet ablaze against a dumpster that was attached to the Ross department store in the shopping center.

Accused wedding crasher wanted after Mississippi bride says stranger stole items at ceremony

MARSHALL COUNTY, Miss. — A woman accused of being a serial wedding crasher is wanted Wednesday in Mississippi, on charges she stole items at a wedding where she wasn’t invited.

Deputies in Marshall County, Mississippi say Sandra Henson, of Alcorn County, allegedly shows up uninvited to weddings and steals gifts while the bride and groom celebrate.

Detectives in Marshall County say their investigation has led them to other cases, extending into Alabama. They’re hoping an arrest can stop her from ruining another couple’s special day.
